Syntax: Ditransitive Verb Phrases

Verb phrases (VPs) tend to follow the subject in English and may consist of verb or verb and its object(s). Ditransitive verbs are followed either always, or most often by both a direct object and an indirect object. This type of VP requires ternary branching. Binary structures and phrase order will not be discussed at this point. VP --> V NP PP (in some cases the PP may precede the NP) Draw tree diagrams for the following ditransitive VPs and check your answers (given in both simple and X-bar form).
