Syntax: Prepositional Phrases

Prepositional phrases (PP) are phrases headed by a preposition. They are almost always followed by an NP object. PPs can appear in many different places in a sentence, often modifying verbs (She goes to the store) or nouns (the girl with the purple bag). The examples that follow show increasing levels of complexity within the NP. Draw tree digrams for the following PPs and check your answers (answers are in both simple and X-bar form).
